"When a man is dressed in a suit so beautifully cut and made, it gives him a great deal of confidence. And that is something that is excuded by James Bond himself." -- David Mason, Creative Director, Anthony Sinclair, Ltd. This video, through an interview with Anthony Sinclair Creative Director, David Mason, tells the story of the handcrafted, bespoke suits that were created by Sinclair for Sean Connery's James Bond character. Filmed in 2012 for the Barbican exhibit, Designing 007: Fifty Years of Bond Style, Mason shares what is so special, unique and priceless about these suits. The melodic Erik Satie score in the background, highlights the elegance and timelessness of these suits. A thank you to George Hahn's blog for sourcing this interview.
Love scanning music festivals for new finds. SXSW music festival always has something cool to discover. See the Pretty Much Amazing playlist from Soundcloud below or download the top 100 from NPR. So I'm going to jump on The Bachelor bandwagon. Not because I'm a Juan Pablo fan, but more because this image screams why fit and presentation matter! Juan Pablo, at 5'11", is a former professional soccer player. Being athletic is fantastic, but it means that some trends that work well for models or men with a leaner build, don't translate well. To start, (#1) a double vented suit jacket is normally better suited for men with a wider lower body. Good choice for a soccer player, who are known for their strong quads! But... The slim fit, tapered slacks of his suit (#2) are too narrow, especially at the bottom. The cuffs (#3) don't hit the shoes at a good point. He would do better with more a straight, not tapered leg. Lastly, presentation. This suit is entirely too WRINKLED! Wrinkles vastly devalue style, no matter how much this suit cost, whether it is custom or off the rack. From Yatzer design blog - In horses, the gestation period usually lasts anywhere between 320 to 350 days. Flach’s photographs were taken in the earlier stages, on Days 10, 35, 65 and 85 to be exact. ''In its earliest, undifferentiated days, the milky white form might appear to be that of either human or equine. But by day 85 the graceful, 5.5-inch-long figure - suspended in formalin and photographed through a glass container—is undeniably a horse. You’re seeing something in its design stages.” - Tim Flach. |
Why be Dapper? There was a time when men wore hats, had impeccably tailored suits and small details like the knot of a tie and print of a pocket square were paramount. Collared shirts became t-shirts; oxfords gave way to sneakers; and the traditional office suit shifted to business casual, or even, just plain casual. Categories
